“Completely Wild, Unverified And Unsubstantiated,” Chidambaram’s Family On His Arrest

Mumbai: P Chidambaram’s legal team is challenging the Delhi High Court’s order which on Tuesday revoked the interim protection from an arrest that was granted to Chidambaram last year.

Former Union Finance and Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court requesting protection from arrest a day after teams of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) reached his home to arrest him in the INX Media case.

A team of four senior lawyers Kapil Sibal, Vivek Tankha, Salman Khurshid and Dayan Krishnan are representing P Chidambaram in the Supreme Court.

On May 31, 2018, the Delhi High Court had granted Chidambaram interim protection. This was to continue until August 20, 2019.

In a statement, Chidambaram’s family alleged that “media has been reporting completely wild, unverified and unsubstantiated allegations” against him.

Chidambaram’s counsel Kapil Sibal says, “Arrest him (Chidambaram). There is no issue but if he moves for an anticipatory bail or regular bail as is his right, then it shall be examined under the due procedure.

He said the SC’s decision on this would impact cases against Mallya, Nirav Modi, Mehul Chowsi, Zakir Naik and also terror finding cases.
