Consider New Ministers As Introduced: PM Amid Opp’n Interruptions IAn Parliament

Mumbai: PM Narendra Modi on Monday stopped in the middle of introducing new Union Ministers in the Parliament, due to Opposition sloganeering on fuel prices. PM said, “Consider these ministers as introduced.”

The chaos continued until the Lok Sabha was adjourned till the afternoon.

Earlier this month, the prime minister inducted 36 new ministers into his government in the first cabinet reshuffle of his second term in power.

PM Modi said, “I thought there would be enthusiasm in Parliament because so many women, Dalits and tribals have become ministers. This time our allies from agriculture and rural background, OBC community have been given a place in the council of ministers.”

“They should have been encouraged and congratulated. Maybe some people are not happy if the women of the country, OBCs, farmer sons become ministers. That’s why they don’t even introduce themselves.”

As the opposition continued to raise slogans of price hikes and farmer protests, Speaker Om Birla warned them and urged for decency. “You are bringing down the standards of parliamentary democracy, we are the largest democracy in the world,” he was heard saying.

In his traditional remarks before the start of the session, PM Modi had said that the opposition should ask tough questions but the government should also be allowed to answer them in Parliament.

“I urge all MPs and all parties to ask the toughest and sharpest questions in the Houses, but the government should also be allowed to answer in a disciplined environment,” PM Modi told reporters at the Parliament House complex.
