Counting Of Votes Underway In Patkura Assembly, Results To Be Declared Today

Mumbai: Counting of votes underway for Patkura assembly by-poll in Kendrapara district. The result will be declared today.

Sabitri Agarwal of the Biju Janata Dal is currently leading by nearly 7,000 votes against Bijoy Mohapatra of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Around 18 counters have set up for the counting of votes, Kendrapara district Collector Samarth Verma told PTI.

There is an arrangement of counting of votes in Kendrapara Autonomous College, where the Strong Room is located, which is protected by Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), Mobile Patrol Team and District Police.

After two adjournments in the last few months, voting was done on July 20.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, BJP’s Bijoy Mohapatra seat is contesting with BJD candidate Sabitri Agrawal, who is the widow of Bed Prakash Agarwal.

Earlier, the polling on Patkura assembly seat was fixed on April 29, but could not be done due to the death of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwal on April 20.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) then fixed the new date for elections on May 19, but it was further postponed due to the cyclonic funnel which came to the state on May 3.
