COVID-19: Dharavi Witnesses Sharp Fall, Just Six New Cases on Friday

Mumbai: To some relief for the authorities, Dharavi, one of Mumbai’s largest coronavirus hotspots, saw a sharp drop in fresh cases, including only six new ones, on Friday.

This took the total positive COVID-19 cases to 220 here.

Six new cases were reported from Gopinath Nagar, Kalyanwadi, Janata Nagar, Banwari Compound and Maulana Azam Nagar areas.

A total of 25 cases were reported in Dharavi on Thursday, with a population of about eight lakh and an area of ​​2.1 square kilometres is the largest slum in Asia.

In order to break the chain ‘and prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Brihanmumbai Metropolitan Municipality (BMC) has established several installation areas here, with more than 1.5 lakh people living in these areas.

Dharavi registered his first coronavirus case on April 1, in which a 56-year-old man passed away due to infection.
However, the maximum number of cases in Mumbai are from Worli-Prabhadevi region, with a total of 534 positive COVID-19 cases reported.

Thus far, Maharashtra has 6,817 coronovirus cases, the highest in the country. It also includes 310 deaths.

Mumbai, the state capital and the country’s financial capital, is the worst-case city in the country with a total of 4,589 cases, including 179 casualties.
