Creators Of ‘Bulli Bai’ And ‘S***i Deals’ Apps Get Bail On Humanitarian Grounds

Mumbai: A Delhi court has granted bail to ‘Bulli Bai’ app creator Niraj Bishnoi and ‘S***i Deals’ app creator Aumkareshwar Thakur on humanitarian grounds. The court considered that the accused are first time offenders and continued incarceration would be detrimental to their overall wellbeing.

Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police KPS Malhotra said the primary reason for granting bail to the accused persons was that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) results were yet to come.

“The trial court had relied on the evidence against the accused persons and no deficiency was pointed out in the investigation,” Malhotra said.

However, the court said that it is imposing strict restrictions on the accused to ensure that they do not tamper with evidence or threaten witnesses, ANI reported.

The accused were ordered not to approach or influence any witness in the case. They were also asked to keep their mobile phones on at all times and to provide their present location when asked by the Investigating Officer (IO).

The court also said that the accused persons are not allowed to leave the country and they will have to appear before the court when the court orders them to do so.

Delhi Police had on January 6 this year confirmed the arrest of Bishnoi, who created the Bulli Bai app from Assam. Photos of hundreds of Muslim women were misused on the app, which became public on January 1.

Thakur, on the other hand, was arrested on 9 January in Indore for creating the Sulli Deals app on Github. In July 2021, photos of several Muslim women were uploaded on the app with the accompanying text: “deal of the day”.
