Hyd Man Blackmailed, ₹55,000 Extorted Over Morphed Pornographic Video

The unknown accused threatened to share the video with his contacts if the money was not paid

Mumbai: A 30-year-old Hyderabad-based man was allegedly blackmailed and asked to pay ₹55,000 after he received a WhatsApp video call from an anonymous number.

Explaining how he got trapped, the man said that a few days back he got a WhatsApp video call from an anonymous person, which he joined. According to a report in the Times of India, he saw a blank video on the screen without any audio and the call suddenly got disconnected.

Minutes later, she received a message purportedly showing her a perverted pornographic video. The unknown accused threatened to share the video with his contacts if the money was not paid.

“Initially, he paid Rs 5,000 and shared the screen of payment. Later, the accused demanded Rs 30,000. Out of fear, he paid again. After a few days of peace, the accused again paid the money. The victim paid Rs 20,000. When the threats and extortion did not stop, he finally approached the police,” the officials said.

In the past, victims have been approached by unidentified women in similar extortion bids. In those cases, the victims were asked to pose naked after talking to the women on the phone. The victim, unaware that they are the person on the other side who is recording their actions, will comply. Arming to the video, the accused would blackmail and extort money.

But in the latest case, the victim claimed that there was no person on the other side. He alleged that his video was captured and then it was allegedly morphed.

Most of the contact numbers of the victims are usually randomly accessed by the accused from various social media accounts. In this case, the police are still not sure how the accused got the victim’s number.
