Declare India As Hindu Rashtra, Ban Other Religions: TMC’s Yashwant Sinha

Mumbai: TMC leader Yashwant Sinha on Monday said that a simple solution to all our problems today is to declare India as a “Hindu Rashtra” by amending the Constitution and banning all other religions.

The remarks came even as the Indian rupee hit an all-time low and fellow party leaders took aim at the Centre over alleged economic mismanagement.

“Simple solution to all our problems today: Declare India as a Hindu Rashtra by amending the constitution and ban all other religions. Delete non-Hindu history, take revenge for past wrongs against Hindus by Buddhists, Jains, Muslims and Christians,” the former BJP leader tweeted.

Over the weekend, Sinha had alleged (via an opinion piece published by The Indian Express) that the country was slowly sinking into the “intensity of communal hatred and violence”. He also highlighted the ‘grave’ economic situation in the country, arguing that the current situation was “ripe for violence”.

Last week, the TMC had reacted sharply to the rise in LPG cylinder prices, with Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee accusing the Central government of “tormenting” the people of India by “repeatedly increasing the price” of fuel and commodities.

“The government is bankrupt and has taken 17 lakh crore from the public in the past two years from fuel price hikes”, alleged party spokesperson Sukhendu Sekhar Ray.
