Delhi Bans Gatherings For Christmas, New Year Celebrations Amid Omicron Scare

Mumbai: Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has banned gatherings for Christmas and New Year celebrations this year amid Omicron and COVID-19 scare.

“All DMs and District DCPs shall ensure that no cultural event/gatherings/congregation/take place for celebrating Christmas or New Year in NCT of Delhi,” reads an order issued by DDMA.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) directed the District Magistrates to identify potential COVID-19 superspreader areas in Delhi and take all necessary measures in their respective jurisdictions to control the spread.

“All District Magistrates shall conduct an intensive survey of the entire area falling within their jurisdiction and identify those pockets, colonies, markets, slum areas, crowded places etc. which have the potential of becoming super-spreader or hotspots of COVID-19 virus and Omicron variant,” the order reads.

District Magistrates and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have also been directed to tighten the enforcement mechanism to ensure that people follow social distancing norms and wear masks.

The DDMA also said that all DMs and DCPs will deploy an adequate number of enforcement teams to keep a strict vigil at public places to avoid any possible spike in COVID-19 cases. To avoid any possible surge in cases. be strictly followed.

India has so far reported 213 cases of the Omicron version of the coronavirus in 15 states and union territories, of which 90 people have been cured or migrated, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday.

Of the total confirmed cases of the new variant, Delhi has recorded the maximum 57 cases followed by Maharashtra at 54, Telangana 24, Karnataka 19, Rajasthan 18, Kerala 15 and Gujarat 14.
