Delhi High Court Issues Notice To Ramdev Over Allopathy Remarks

Mumbai: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to yoga guru Baba Ramdev for his remarks against allopathic medicine and allopathic doctors.

The notice was issued on a petition filed by seven doctors, who have accused Ramdev of spreading misinformation to earn commercial profits.

The yoga guru has been asked to reply to the notice by August 10.

Baba Ramdev came under fire after a video of him went viral on social media, in which he could be seen questioning some of the medicines being used to treat the Covid-19 infection.

He claimed that lakhs of people have died due to taking allopathic medicines for coronavirus.

Following his remarks, several doctors’ associations across the country condemned him and filed several FIRs against him.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan then took note of the protests and asked the yoga guru to withdraw his statement calling it “extremely unfortunate”.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had served a defamation notice to Ramdev for his alleged remarks against allopathic and allopathic doctors, demanding an apology from him within 15 days, failing which it said it will demand compensation of Rs 1,000 crore from the yoga guru.

The Patna and Raipur chapters of the IMA filed a complaint against Swami Ramdev, alleging that his comments are likely to create bias against the COVID-19 control mechanism and prevent people from availing proper treatment against the pandemic.
