DK Shivakumar Arrest: Protests Erupt In Karnataka

Mumbai: Protests erupted in several parts of Karnataka on Wednesday following the arrest of senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar by the ED in New Delhi in the money laundering case.

Efforts and demonstrations to block roads by burning tires were reported from Ramanagara, Chennapatna and some neighbouring cities, where a bandh was called by Shivakumar’s supporters.

Kanakpura assembly constituency of Shivkumar comes under Ramnagar district

As a precaution, the district administration has declared a holiday in schools and colleges on Wednesday.
Following the arrest of Congress leaders, there were incidents of stone-pelting on government buses in Kanakpura last night.

Shivkumar, a Congress troubleshooter in the state, was arrested at his headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday for the fourth time under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after appearing before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning.

Shivakumar is the second leader of the Congress to be arrested in the last fortnight. On August 20, the CBI arrested former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media case.
