ED Conducts Searches At Places Linked To Underworld In Mumbai: Reports

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday conducted several searches in Mumbai as part of a money-laundering probe related to underworld operations and related property transactions.

According to reports, the ED is raiding ten properties in and around Mumbai, all linked to Dawood Ibrahim and other organized crime syndicates.

ED officials also visited the residence of Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar in Mumbai.

All the units of the directorate are involved in large-scale raids while some people have also been detained by the agency.

The ED’s action is based on an FIR lodged recently by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and some intelligence inputs received by the former agency.

Officials say that Dawood Ibrahim’s gang is still active in the business of extortion and hawala in Mumbai.

This is being seen as yet another major crackdown on the underworld after the probe agency seized the immovable assets of Iqbal Mirchi.

Sources say that some underworld fugitives and politicians are also being questioned.
