Mumbai: On Monday, the Election Commission sealed its report before the Supreme Court on the release of Vivek Oberoi starrer biopic ‘PM Narendra Modi’. The apex court posted this case on Friday, April 26 for further hearing.

In particular, the apex court last week instructed the Commission to look at the full biopic on Modi and make informed decisions about banning its pan India release by April 19. The bench chaired by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also directed the Elections Panel to submit its decision. The court said in a sealed cover, the next hearing of the case will be on April 22.

Appealing for the makers of the film, who challenged the Election Commission’s ban, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi said that the poll panel banned it by looking at the promo and did not see the trailer, the Election Commission had banned the screening of the biopic in the current election period and said that any film that reduces the purpose of any political entity or person should not be displayed in electronic media.

Acting on complaints by political parties including the Congress, the polling panel emphasized that no biopic material with the ability to disturb the level playing field should not be displayed in those areas where the Model Code of Conduct was applicable.

The Modi biopic is directed by Omung Kumar, showcases Modi’s remarkable courage, wisdom, patience, dedication to his people, his acumen as a political strategist, his leadership that inspired a thousand social changes in Gujarat and later India. It traces his childhood in the 1950s to his meteoric rise in the corridors of politics, as a four-time serving Chief Minister.
