Extension For Filing Income Tax Returns Is NOT Genuine: CBDT

Mumbai: The Central Board of Direct Taxes on Friday has clarified that the messages of deadline extensions for filing the income tax returns are not genuine at all. The letter that said the deadline was extended was circulated on the internet to misguide the people and hence the CBDT has stated that all income tax returns should be filed by the existing deadline of August 31, 2019.

The fake notice stated that the date of August 31 was extended up to 31st September.

The CBDT tweeted, “It has come to the notice of CBDT that an order is being circulated on social media pertaining to extension in due date for filing IT returns. It is categorically stated that the said orders are not genuine. Taxpayers are advised to file returns within the extended due date of 31.08.2019”

There had already been an extension in the date from July 31st to August 31st as the taxpayers received their 16s forms almost a month late.
