First Plasma Therapy Failed In Maharashtra, As 53-year-Old COVID Patient Dies

Mumbai: After the success of Plasma Therapy in Delhi, Maharashtra acquired the treatment that led to the death of a 53-year-old male on 29th April,

The patient was in a critical condition and was admitted strictly to the ICU. He had already developed Acute respiratory distress syndrome and Pneumonia according to Dr Ravishankar, CEO of Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai.

Maharashtra Health Minister, Rajesh Tope asserted the use of plasma therapy on an experimental base after getting an allowance from the ICMR.

ICMR had claimed on Tuesday that “there is no sturdy approval of the effectiveness of Plasma Therapy, it is one of the several emerging therapies. Also, there are several risks of using the convalescent plasma therapy including life-threatening allergic reactions and lung injury”, according to the ANI.

Maharashtra emerges as the hard-hit state of India with 10,478 cases, 1,773 recoveries and 80 deaths.
