Flight Operations At Bhubaneswar Airport To Be Partially Affected For Eight Months

Mumbai:  Flight operations at Biju Patnaik International Airport are partially closed for eight months due to re-work on the main runway, which is to be started in two phases from November this year.

“We are going to start re-carpeting work on the main runway which will start from November 1 and will be completed by June 30 next year. All preparations have been completed and all airline operators are informed of the plan has been done,” Airport Director SC Hota said.

Director Hota told that the repetition work would be done in two stages. In the first phase, flight operations will be closed at night and day services will be closed in the second phase.

“The work will be done in two phases – the first phase will start from November 1 and end on March 31, 2020. During this time, we decided to close the night time from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. .. In the second phase, from April 1 to June 30, 2020, operations will be closed during daytime hours from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.”

“Bhubaneswar Airport is one of the busiest airports and it is not easy for us to close the runway for eight months. Because of this, we have chosen a shorter busier period, so that the air operators according to the available time slots are able to make their flights shuffle. ” Hota added.

According to data available with the airport director’s office, four flights operate from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm and 20 flights a day from 10:30 am to 6:00 am (arrival and departure) occur time.

Re-carpeting of the runway is a maintenance task that is usually done once every 10 years. It was last performed in 2007 at Bhubaneswar Airport.
