Former Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar Likely to Join Modi Government

Mumbai: Former foreign secretary S Jaishankar is likely to join BJP as he attended meeting at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, PM Narendra Modi’s residence.

S. Jaishankar, who worked as Foreign Secretary from January 2015 to January 2018. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1977.

He first served as the Indian Ambassador to the United States (2014-2015), China (2009-2013) and the Czech Republic (2001-04), and served as the High Commissioner of Singapore (2007-09). Jaishankar also played an important role in negotiating the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal.

He represented the Government of India at the Carnegie Endowment International Non-Proliferation Conference in June 2007.

S. Jaishankar, who was appointed as the Foreign Secretary of India in 2015, was involved in India-China negotiations to end the deadlock, and after retirement, Tata Sons was serving as President of Global Corporate Affairs.

He did his studies from Air Force Central School, New Delhi and graduated from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. He has done MA and MPhil in Political Science. And Ph.D. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where he specialized in nuclear diplomacy.
