Former Kerala CM V Viswanatha Menon Dies At 98

Mumbai: In a shocking incident former CM of Kerala V Viswanatha Menon passed away in a private hospital.

He was 92 years old. He was undergoing treatment for age-related diseases in the hospital.

Menon was a political activist in his youth who was accused of communist attack at the Edappalli police station. He was the leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala.

While starting his career as a student worker in the Indian independence movement at his Alma Mater Maharaja College, Ernakulam, he became popular as Ambedi Vishwamy among his colleagues, seniors and close people.

V. Vishwanath Menon was one of the first members of the undivided Communist Party of India in Kochi, and he played an important role in the formation of its base during the colonial period and the postcolonial period during the early 1940s and early 1950s. After sacrificing his noble lifestyle in his affluent family, he worked among the ranks of the party against the exploitation of the Dalit sections.

Popularly known as “Ambadi Vishwam”, Menon was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1967 and was a Rajya Sabha member from 1974 to 1980.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled Menon’s death and said it was a big loss for the country’s Left-democratic movement.
