Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Won’t Go To Pakistan, Says Punjab CM Amarinder Singh

Mumbai: Denying the reports that he will go to Pakistan for the inauguration of Kartarpur Corridor Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh also denied that former prime minister Manmohan Singh had accepted the invitation to go to Pakistan for the same.

The Punjab CM told reporters, “For the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor (to go to Pakistan) and I do not think that Dr Manmohan Singh will also go.” Following his remarks, it was reported that Manmohan Singh agreed to join the first all-party party at the much-awaited opening ceremony of the Kartpur corridor on 9 November.

The news agency ANI had earlier reported that the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office had said that the former PM had agreed to join the first batch or party to visit the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan on 9 November. It was reported that Manmohan Singh would also attend the main event. To mark the 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev on the same day at Sultanpur Lodhi.

PM Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind have accepted CM Singh of Punjab’s invitation to attend Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th Rakash Prakash Purab ‘ceremony in the state.

India and Pakistan discussed several important issues related to the Kartarpur Corridor on 30 September last week and agreed that more than 5000-10000 pilgrims from the Indian side could visit the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib every day.

Indian citizens will be given a card at the beginning of the pilgrimage and their passports will be deposited with management which will be given back to them on their return from the shrine in Pakistan.

The corridor connects Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan with Dera Baba Nanak temple in Punjab. Indian citizens will be able to make a visa-free trip to a pilgrimage site in Pakistan which was founded in 1522 by Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism
