Frenzy Of Hate Filled Destruction In India; Your Silence Is Deafening: Ex-Bureaucrats To PM

Mumbai: In a letter to PM Narendra Modi, 108 ex-bureaucrats wrote, “We are witnessing a frenzy of hate-filled destruction in the country where at the sacrificial altar are not just Muslims and members of the other minority communities but the Constitution itself.”

Over a hundred former bureaucrats on Tuesday, April 26 criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the recent communal incidents in the country and appealed to him to “call for an end to the politics of hate that governments under [his] party’s control are so assiduously practising”.

“We are witnessing a frenzy of hate-filled destruction in a country where not only Muslims and members of other minority communities are at the altar of sacrifice, but the Constitution itself,” the letter states, later adding, “Your silence, in the face of this enormous societal threat, is deafening.”

“While we are not aware that the current surge in the communal frenzy is coordinated and directed by the political leadership, it is clear that the administration at the state and local level provides a convenient environment for mischievous lumpen groups to operate without fear. Such facilities and assistance are not limited to those provided by the local police and other administrative officials; it appears to have the tacit approval of the highest political levels in the state and central governments.”

The letter, written by 108 signatories who served as IAS, IPS or IFS officers, said, “As former civil servants, it is not generally our habit to express ourselves in such extreme terms, but With constant speed, the constitutional edifice is being built and destroyed by our founding fathers who compel us to speak up and express our anger and anguish.”

Stating that the recent spate of communal incidents is a ‘master design’ to lay the foundation of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’, the civil servants of the group, who have organized themselves into ‘Constitutional Conduct Groups’, wrote:

“The events that are taking place now are different from those of communal conflict in the past… the constitutional and legal framework designed to prevent such development is being distorted and distorted so that it finds itself an instrument of the tyranny of the majority. No wonder the bulldozer has now become a new metaphor for the exercise of political and administrative power, both literally and figuratively.”

The mention of the word ‘bulldozer’ can be understood as a sign of recent anti-encroachment operations in Delhi, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, where communal clashes broke out in April.

The demolition campaign was widely condemned as politically motivated and targeted the minority Muslim community.

Appealing to PM Modi to adhere to his party’s poll promise of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, the letter said, “It is our fond hope that in this year of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, rising above partisan considerations, you will call for an end to the politics of hate that governments under your party’s control are so assiduously practising.”

Former Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Principal Secretary TKA Nair, and former National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon are among the signatories of the letter.
