Goa Govt To Provide Security To App-Based Taxi Service

Mumbai: In a recent development, the Goa government announced the security to the mobile application-based taxi services in the coastal state in view of recent incidents of violence.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant appealed to prevent traditional taxi operators from taking over the law.

“The government will provide security to app-based taxi operators, who are facing violence for some quarters.

We appeal to those who are involved in violence against app-based taxi operators, to improve their methods.

They should also be included in an app-based taxi,” he said.

Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) launched an app-based taxi service, ‘Goa Miles’ last year, which is facing opposition from traditional service operators.

“The system of app-based taxi service is popular all over the world, but Goa is the only exception,” he said.

The chief minister said, “If taxi operators feel that going to app-based taxi services will affect their business, then we can think about it.”

Last week, a taxi assigned to ‘Goa Miles’ was attacked at Colva beach in South Goa, allegedly by traditional taxi operators.
