Government Approved Chandrayaan-3 Project: ISRO Chief K Sivan

ISRO chief KK Sivan also mentioned that there will be more than 25 missions to space this year

Mumbai: In a recent development, Indian Space Research Organisation chief K Sivan on Wednesday announced that India’s third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3 is on and has been approved by the government.

K Sivan said that the configuration of Chandrayaan-3 will be similar to its predecessor Chandrayaan-2. This means that the Chandrayaan-3 will also have a lander and a rover with a propulsion module.

At a press conference, the ISRO chief said that all activities related to the third lunar mission were going on smoothly and said that Chandrayaan-3 would not affect other satellite programs.

ISRO chief K Sivan also explained the cost of the upcoming Chandrayaan-3 mission and said that the lander and rover of the third lunar mission would cost around Rs 250 crore. Kevan said that the full cost of the mission, however, would be Rs 250 crore 365 crores.

The total cost of the Chandrayaan-2 mission was Rs 960 crore.

K Sivan also spoke at the press conference about the possible reas ons that led to the crash of Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram Lander.

He said that when it should have gone as the rough braking phase, the velocity did not decrease in the second stage, causing the lander to go out of control in the third phase, which led to a harder landing.

Apart from Chandrayaan-3, ISRO chief KK Sivan also mentioned that there will be more than 25 missions to space this year.

At Chandrayaan-3’s landing place, K Sivan said that ISRO plans to land at the same location as Chandrayaan-2, the land that crashed on the lunar surface before it crashed, which should be soft-landed.
