Govt’s Efforts To Force Peace In J&K Failed Miserably: Farooq Abdullah

Mumbai: Former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah said that the government’s efforts to “force peace” in Jammu and Kashmir have failed “miserably”.

Addressing party workers at a one-day meeting in Hazratbal constituency, Abdullah said the impact of the abrogation of Article 370 can be seen from the pain that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are facing on every front.

“We are facing a dangerous situation arising out of the undemocratic and unconstitutional decisions of August 5, 2019. The government’s efforts to establish peace in Jammu and Kashmir have failed miserably,” Abdullah said.

The Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar further said that the government has failed to make sincere efforts to establish a set-up based on the active will of our people in Kashmir, Jammu, Chenab and Pir Panjal.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said his party tried to persuade the BJP to change its approach with regard to Kashmir, but they did not listen. “Now, they are struggling with their failures. Neither there is peace nor any visage of development here,” he added, news agency PTI quoted.

He stressed that the National Conference is fighting to protect Jammu and Kashmir’s relations with India and reaching out to political forces across the country in their fight to get back the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah’s comments can be seen in the backdrop of recent unrest in the Valley due to targeted killings of Hindus.

There have been at least nine attacks on the minority Hindu community in the Valley since May 1. Recently a teacher was killed by terrorists in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incidents have created unrest in the community and many people have expressed their desire to leave the Valley citing security reasons.
