Group Of Students In Hijab Demanding Entry In Karnataka College Booked

Mumbai: A group of around 10-15 girl students were booked for demanding that they be allowed to enter their college wearing hijabs in Karnataka’s Tumakuru. According to the principal’s complaint, the students wearing hijab “disrupted” routine activities of the college, Indian Express reported.

The case was registered against 10-15 “unknown” girl students after the principal of the Empress Government Pre-University College in Tumakuru, about 70 km from Bengaluru, filed a complaint.

On Thursday, the police barred the students from entering the college and said that they would be admitted only after removing the hijab. However, some students sought an answer from the college administration as to why they were not being allowed inside.

According to the principal’s complaint, 10-15 students wearing hijab demanded entry into the college, and “disrupted” routine activities of the college.

As a precaution, the police had imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC within 200 meters of the college premises. Tumakuru SP Rahul Kumar Shahpurwad was not available for comment.

Meanwhile, the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College in Udupi, which had raised slogans among various groups of students over the hijab, reopened on Friday after being closed for 10 days.

Officials said the college was reopened amid tight police security as practical examinations for pre-university students were scheduled. Students wearing head dupatta and hijab were not allowed inside the campus.
