Heard Of Such Incidents During India’s Partition, Says JP Nadda On Post-Poll Violence

Mumbai: Incidents of widespread violence in West Bengal led to a political uproar in a politically unstable state, with the ruling TMC and BJP attacking each other for the conflict.

Several BJP workers were allegedly killed and injured in clashes in several incidents of violence, and shops were being looted in West Bengal after the results were announced for the 292-member state assembly, where the ruling Trinamool Congress won.

BJP President JP Nadda, who arrived in Kolkata on a two-day visit today, said that he had heard about such incidents during the Partition of India.

“The incidents which we saw after the results of #WestBengalPoll shock us and make us worried. I had heard of such incidents during India’s partition. We had never seen such intolerance after the results of a poll, in independent India,” the BJP chief said.

“We are committed to fighting this ideological battle & the activities of TMC which is full of intolerance. We are ready to fight democratically. I will go to South 24 Parganas now and visit the houses of those workers later whose lives ended a few hours after the results,” he added.

The BJP has alleged that 12 of its cadres lost their lives and several offices and houses of BJP workers were demolished in the violence.

Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has also alleged that 15-20 party goons of TMC ransacked the Kolkata office of the BJP and argued with ABVP workers. He also alleged that TMC goons committed vandalism with idols of Hindu deities and freedom fighters.

In the third consecutive victory in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress won 213 seats in the Assembly Elections, the results of which were declared on Sunday.

The BJP managed to bag 77 seats in the 294-seat state assembly. Banerjee will be taking oath as the state CM for the third consecutive term on Wednesday.
