Heavy Rain Warning For Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura And Mizoram: IMD

Mumbai: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rains from 29 March to 1 April could cause landslides and flooding of low-lying areas in some places in South Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.

“Under the influence of strong lower level southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning at isolated places are very likely over Northeast India during 29th March-02nd April with maximum activity on 30th and 31st March,” the IMD said in a press statement.

It said that there will be heavy rainfall on 29 March and 01 April and heavy to very heavy rainfall from 30 to 31 March are very likely over south Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram,” it added.

The weather department has also warned of thunderstorm, lightning, hail and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kph) during this period. The maximum activity is expected on March 30 and 31 over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram.
