Her Husband Didn’t Like The Car, Wanted Cash: Father Of Kerala Woman Who Was Found Dead

Kerala: People in Kerala are outraged over the death of a medical student at her husband’s house over an alleged demand for dowry. Vismaya, a 24-year-old Ayurveda medical student, allegedly committed suicide in the bathroom of her husband’s house in south Kerala’s Sasthaamkotta district on Monday.

The woman’s family has accused her assistant motor vehicle inspector husband S Kiran Kumar of harassing and harassing her over dowry. A day after the woman was found dead, the police arrested Kumar and charged him under Section 304B of the Indian Penal Code (dowry murder). Kumar was taken into custody last night on the basis of a complaint by his family.

Highlighting the repeated harassment by Kumar’s family, Vismaya’s relatives alleged that their daughter was beaten up, abused, and harassed at her in-laws’ house.

A day before the incident, Vismaya sent an SOS to her family in a series of WhatsApp messages in which Kumar was allegedly harassed for dowry.

Relatives alleged that Vismaya shared pictures of wounds and beatings on her body, which she had suffered during the recent severe physical torture by Kumar.

Vismaya said in a WhatsApp chat that her husband did not like the car gifted by her father as dowry and used to beat her over it. Vismaya said she was dragged by her hair and stamped on her face for dowry. The harassment was especially over the car by Kumar who used to verbally abuse Vismaya’s father, saying that he deserved more dowry according to his stature but got only very little.

Vismay’s father Trivikraman Nair claimed that his family had given Kumar 100 gold and over an acre of land as dowry during their marriage in 2020, besides a car worth Rs 10 lakh.

Nair said that Kumar had assaulted his daughter in front of him for demanding dowry.

“But he did not like the car and wanted Rs 10 lakh instead. As I said it is not possible, he used to torture my daughter. He used to harass my daughter after we came to our house at midnight last January. beaten in front, he said.

Nair has alleged that his daughter would never die by suicide and it was a case of murder by Kumar’s family.

Soon after the incident was reported, the state transport department suspended Kumar from service. Kumar was taken into police custody on Monday night and arrested the next morning on charges of dowry death.

Other legal steps will also be taken against Kumar after receiving the post-mortem report, he added. Now Kumar will be produced in the court and his custody will be sought later as further investigation is required. Police said the role of his relatives in the incident would also be probed.
