I am Not ‘Anti-Indian’: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan

Mumbai: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said, “I am not against any country. I am not anti-Indian or anti-American…I want friendship with them and there should be respect.”

Addressing a public relations program broadcast on TV, the Prime Minister of Pakistan said that he is not against foreign countries.

Dawn newspaper quoted Khan as saying, “I am not against any country. I am not anti-India or anti-American. But we can be against policies. I want friendship and respect from them.”

Khan, who is facing the toughest political test since taking office in 2018, is alleging a “foreign conspiracy” to remove him.

Khan-led ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party on Sunday blocked a no-confidence motion against him in the National Assembly and asked President Arif Alvi to dissolve the lower house.

A sharp critic of the ruling NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Pakistan PM recently lauded New Delhi’s independent foreign policy.

Known for his anti-India rhetoric, Khan praised India’s foreign policy. He said New Delhi imported crude from Russia despite US sanctions on Moscow for its “special military operation” in Ukraine.

Relations between India and Pakistan came under deep strain after the 2016 terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force Base by terror groups based in the neighbouring country.

Tensions between the two countries escalated after subsequent attacks, including an attack on an Indian Army camp in Uri.

India’s August 2019 decision to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate the state into two union territories also left Pakistan in a tizzy.

India has maintained that it is ready to hold dialogue with Pakistan if it ensures to create an environment free of terror, hostility, and violence.
