Impose Night Curfew Or Lockdown In Mumbai? BMC To Take Decision In Next 48 Hours

Mumbai: For the safety of the citizens, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Kishori Pedanekar said that it could be decided in 48 hours whether to impose a night curfew in Mumbai to contain the spread of COVID-19, as has been done in some other districts of the state.

While 7-day lockdown, night curfew and weekend restrictions have been announced in some cities like Nagpur, Pune, Amravati, and Parbhani, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government expects new restrictions for the financial year tomorrow.

Yesterday, authorities imposed a curfew in Latur between 8 am and 5 pm in view of the increasing number of coronavirus cases. All weekly markets will remain closed during this period, however, essential services are exempted.

Notably, Maharashtra has recorded 16,620 cases in the last 24 hours, the largest single day of the year.

On the other hand, India’s single-day rise in new cases of COVID19 reached an all-time high of an 86-day period on Monday. In the last 24 hours, the country recorded 26,291 cases of COVID-19, an increase of 971 cases since Sunday.

However, there were 118 deaths in the last 24 hours, a reduction of 43 fatalities from the previous day, the data shared by the Union Health Ministry showed.
