India Makes e-Visa Must For Afghan Nationals, All Previous Visas Invalidated
Mumbai: India has decided that all Afghan nationals must travel to the country only on e-Visa from now on due to the security situation in Afghanistan and streamlining of the visa process after introducing an e-Emergency X-Misc visa.
“Owing to the prevailing security situation in Afghanistan and streamlining of the visa process by introduction of the e-Emergency X-Misc visa, it has been decided that all Afghan nationals henceforth must travel to India only on e-Visa,” a press release by the Press Information Bureau said.
The statement further said that all visas issued to citizens of Afghanistan who are not currently in India will become invalid. The move comes after the Taliban took over the war-torn country, prompting countries to evacuate their citizens from Afghanistan.
Citizens of Afghanistan who wish to apply for an Indian Visa can apply through the official website of the Government of India – www.indianvisaonline.gov.in. India has undertaken a massive evacuation operation for Indian nationals stranded in Afghanistan.
Addressing a high-level meeting last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged his officials to ensure the safe evacuation of Indians from Afghanistan.
“India must not only protect our citizens, but we must also provide refuge to those Sikh and Hindu minorities who want to come to India, and we must also provide all possible help to our Afghan brothers and sisters who are looking towards India for assistance,” PM said.
