India Reports 7,495 New COVID-19 Cases, Omicron Cases Rose To 236

Mumbai: India has so far reported 236 cases of the Omicron version of the coronavirus in 16 states and union territories, of which 104 people have been cured or migrated, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday.

Maharashtra has reported a maximum of 65 cases of Omicron type, followed by 64 in Delhi, 24 in Telangana, 19 in Karnataka, 21 in Rajasthan and 15 in Kerala.

The ministry’s data, updated at 8 am, also showed that India has recorded 7,495 new coronavirus infections, taking the total number of cases to 3,47,65,976, while active cases have risen to 78,291.

The death toll has risen to 4,78,759 with 434 fresh deaths, the data said.

The daily increase in new coronavirus infections has been recorded below 15,000 for the past 56 days.

The ministry said that active cases comprise 0.23 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has further improved, rising to 98.40 per cent since March 2020.

The active COVID-19 caseload has registered an increase of 101 cases in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.62 per cent. It is less than two per cent for the last 80 days. The weekly positivity rate was also recorded at 0.59 per cent. According to the ministry, it has been below one per cent for the last 39 days.

The number of people cured of the disease rose to 3,42,08,926, while the death rate was recorded at 1.38 per cent.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 139.70 crores.
