Indians May Consider Leaving Ukraine Temporarily: India Amid Russian Invasion Threat

Mumbai: The Indian Embassy in Kyiv has asked Indian nationals, especially students, whose stay is not essential, to temporarily leave Ukraine in view of the uncertainties of the current situation.

In an advisory, the embassy urged Indian citizens to refrain from travelling in and out of Ukraine if not necessary.

The advice comes amid tensions between Russia and Ukraine over an imminent Russian offensive, which is expected to begin within days.

“Given the uncertainties of the current situation in Ukraine, Indian citizens in Ukraine, especially students whose stay is not essential, may consider temporarily leaving. Indian nationals may also consider all non-essential travel to and within Ukraine, travel is advised to be avoided,” the advisory read.

The Embassy also requested the Indian nationals to keep them informed about the status of their presence in Ukraine so that they can reach wherever necessary.

“The embassy is working normally to provide all services to Indian citizens in Ukraine,” the advisory said.

Last month, India said it was closely monitoring developments related to Ukraine, including the ongoing high-level discussions between Russia and the US, and called for a peaceful resolution of the situation for long-term peace and stability in the region.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the Indian Embassy in Kyiv is also monitoring the local developments.

Meanwhile, the United States is moving its Ukraine embassy operations from Kyiv to the western city of Lviv, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, citing a “dramatic acceleration in the build-up of Russian forces”.

In recent weeks, Russia has deployed tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine’s borders, raising fears of an invasion. However, Russia denies that it plans to launch an offensive against Ukraine.
