Karnataka To Buy 2 Lakh Rapid Test Kits For COVID-19 Detection

Mumbai: The Karnataka government announced the purchase of an additional two lakh rapid test kits for detection of COVID-19 at a task force meeting on Thursday.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other senior officials were present at the task force meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan.

Ashwattanarayan said that the Chinese government has officially agreed to supply the rapid test kit to the listed company, after which the number of tests will increase.

In addition, 250 kiosks will be set up in the state to collect saliva samples of someone with COVID-19 symptoms. Such kiosks will be launched one by one in the talukas of the state. Ashwattanarayan explained that this would enhance the sample collection process and prevent the spread of the disease.

Ashwattanarayan said it was also approved to purchase the required 25,000 RT-PCR kits.

He said that COVID-19 patients should be treated in government-appointed hospitals. Ashwattanarayan said that a separate coronavirus helpline would be commissioned to address people’s curiosities.

It has been decided not to allow congregational prayers during Ramadan. And also said that tracing of the cases related to the Tablighi Jamaat meeting in Delhi has been completed in the state.
