Karti Chidambaram Granted Protection From Arrest In Visa Scam Case

Mumbai: A Delhi court has granted interim protection from arrest till May 30 to Congress MP Karti Chidambaram in the alleged money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the bribe-for-visa case.

A day earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a money laundering case against Lok Sabha MP, his close aide S Bhaskararaman and others in a case related to facilitating project visas for Chinese nationals for a power project of the Vedanta Group. In return for bribes in Punjab when his father was the Union Home Minister.

Hours ago, Congress MPs had reached the CBI headquarters to join the investigation of the alleged scam.

A special court had ordered him to join the CBI investigation within 16 hours of his arrival from the UK and Europe, where he had gone with the permission of the Supreme Court and the special court.

The MP returned from his trip on Wednesday.
