Kashmir Encounter Ends On Day 7, LeT Terrorist Uzair Khan Shot Dead

Mumbai: The encounter between security forces and terrorists in Kashmir’s Anantnag ended on the seventh day on Tuesday, with police confirming that Lashkar-eTaiba commander Uzair Khan was shot dead. “Maybe we will find another body,” ADG Kashmir Vijay Kumar said.

Three officers, two from Army and one from Jammu and Kashmir Police, and a jawan were martyred in the gunfight.

“LeT commander Uzair Khan has been killed, with the recovery of his weapon. Additionally, another terrorist’s lifeless body has been found. The Anantnag encounter has concluded,” ADGP Police Vijay Kumar said.

Kumar further added,” We are yet to search at many places as there may be many blind cells, which we aim to destroy. We appeal the people to not go to the spot as there is possibility of presence of grenades. We got the information that there were 2-3 terrorists, and it is likely that they will recover the dead body of the third. The search is still underway.”

Two bodies were discovered in the woodland yesterday. While efforts are being made to determine the identify of the other deceased, one of the dead has been recognized as Pradeep, the soldier who was killed by terrorists on Wednesday.

Previously, the terrorists killed Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat, Major Ashish Dhonchak, and Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer, 19 Rashtriya Rifles, on Wednesday.
