God Has Chosen Me To Bring Women’s Reservation Bill: PM Modi In Parliament

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while presenting ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (Women’s Reservation Bill) said God has chosen him to present the Bill.

The Bill seeks to provide 33% reservation to women in Lok Sabha and assemblies. He congratulated women and urged the House to pass the Bill with a majority.

PM Modi said, “Discussion on Women’s Reservation Bill happened for a long time. During Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s regime Women’s Reservation Bill was introduced several times but there was not enough majority to pass the Bill, and because of this this dream remained incomplete. Today, God has given me the opportunity to take this forward…Our government is bringing a new Bill today on Women’s participation in both Houses…”

“The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will ensure more women become members of Parliament, assemblies,”PM Modi added.

This comes after the long-awaited measure was adopted by the Union Cabinet on Monday, signaling an important development after over 27 years of waiting. The measure, which was approved in a significant Cabinet meeting on Monday that was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, may be introduced as the first bill in the first session of the new parliament.

The bill, which was first approved by the Rajya Sabha in 2010, aims to allocate one-third of all seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures to women. The bill expired since it was unable to be approved by the Lok Sabha at the time.
