Kerala Rains: Heavy Rain Lashed Out, Flood-Like Situation In State

Mumbai: Due to heavy rains lashed out Kerala two Army columns were moved to Wayanad and Virajpet to assist rescue and relief operations being carried out by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The Defense Security Corps (DSC), Kannur, has deployed two columns of DSC personnel, each in Virajpet in Coorg district respectively and Wayanad, Defense Public Relations Officer said.

A column consists of one officer, three junior commissioned officers, and 55 other ranks.

Meanwhile, the teams rescued 15 people stranded due to flooding due to Beni Hala drain on the newly constructed bridge between Enigni and Hubli taluka.

Flood-like conditions have been reported in the various districts. Whereas NDRF has said that it has deployed five of its teams to carry out rescue operations in the state.

Earlier in the day, the Kerala Disaster Management Authority had issued a ‘Red Alert’ alert for Idukki, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts for the next 24 hours.

In addition, all schools and colleges in Malappuram and Wayanad districts will remain closed.

IMD on Wednesday had predicted ‘Fairly widespread’ to ‘widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state of Kerala for the next three days.

‘Red Alert’ warning denotes that an area will receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

An ‘Orange Alert’ warning denotes heavy to very heavy rainfall in a particular area.
