Kudos To People For Showing Mirror To Govt: Cong On Fuel Price Cut

The government took a crucial step on the eve of Diwali to cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively

Mumbai: Congress party chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has lashed out at the central government for taking steps to reduce the excise duty on fuel prices only after facing a defeat in the recent by-polls.

“Congratulations to the countrymen for teaching a lesson to the Taxjivi Modi government. The loss of votes in democracy has shown the mirror of truth to BJP,” Randeep Surjewala tweeted. Also Read: UP Polls 2022: BSP Alleges BJP Seeking Votes In Name Of Ram And SP In Name Of Jinnah

Surjewala further questioned BJP, “In May 2014, when petrol was Rs 71.41 and diesel was Rs 55.49 per liter, then crude oil was $105.71 per barrel. Today crude oil is $ 82 per barrel. When will the price be equal to 2014?”

He also compared the excise duties on Petrol and Diesel during the UPA government and Modi government. During the Congress reign, the excise duty on petrol was Rs 9.48 per liter and on diesel Rs 3.56 per liter. Excise duty on petrol and diesel was Rs 32.90 and Rs. 31.80 per liter under the Modi government.

“Modi Ji, this jumla won’t work, you have to reduce the rates that you have increased,” he added.

Appealing to the countrymen, Surjewala asked them to understand Modinomics and questioned the government for decreasing the prices just by Rs. 5 and RS. 10.

He said, “Dear countrymen, understand the rhetoric of Modinomics! This year in 2021, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 28 and the price of diesel by Rs 26. The rate of petrol and diesel was decreased by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively as soon as the by-polls were lost in 14 seats in the country. Even decreasing the prices by 5 & 10 rupees has become the Prime Minister’s gift for Diwali? Oh, Ram! There is a limit.”

Meanwhile, the BJP welcomed the decision of the central government to cut the prices of petrol and diesel, calling it Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gift of Diwali.

BJP President JP Nadda said that this decision will increase consumption and help in keeping inflation down. On the other hand, BJP chief spokesperson Anil Baluni said that PM Modi has given a wonderful gift on Diwali.

The government took a crucial step on the eve of Diwali to give some relief to the common people from inflation. After fuel prices hit a record high, the Center cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively.
