Level 3 Restrictions To Continue In Mumbai Till June 27: BMC

Local train services here are currently being run only for those falling in the category of essential and emergency services

Mumbai: BMC has announced that level 3 restrictions will continue in Mumbai till June 27. Level 3 curbs mean essential shops can function till 4 pm on all days while non-essential shops can operate till 4 pm on weekdays.

The state government earlier this month announced a five-tier plan to ease restrictions as per the weekly COVID-19 positivity rate and oxygen bed occupancy.

According to the order of the government, cities, and districts where the positive rate is less than five percent and the number of oxygen beds is less than 25 percent, they come under Level-1, from where the ban can be completely lifted.

The Level-3 category is applicable in places where the positivity rate is five to 10 percent and the oxygen bed occupancy is more than 40 per cent.

The BMC said that the positivity rate in Mumbai has come down to 3.79 percent and the oxygen bed stay rate to 23.56 percent.

A civic order said that even though Mumbai is eligible to be upgraded to ‘Level 1’, the current restrictions will take into account the local trains operating from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) taking into account the population density and geography of the city. As per the Maharashtra government’s order of June 4, municipal corporations and districts have been notified as independent administrative units and they can take decisions on categorization for unlocking as per the criteria laid down by the government.
