LG VK Saxena Calls For CBI Probe Into Delhi Government’s Excise Policy

Mumbai: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena called for a CBI probe into the alleged violation of the Delhi Excise Policy. This comes after Delhi’s Chief Secretary filed a report showing prima facie violations of various policies.

Officials said a CBI probe was recommended on the Delhi Chief Secretary’s report filed earlier this month, which included the GNCTD Act 1991, the Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR)-1993, Delhi Excise Act-2009 and Delhi Excise Rules-2010, officials said.

Besides, there were also ‘deliberate and gross procedural lapses’ to provide ‘undue advantage to the liquor licensees’ after the tender, the officials said.

The new Excise Policy 2021-22 was implemented on November 17 last year, under which retail licenses were given to private bidders for 849 shops across the city divided into 32 zones.

Many liquor shops could not open as they were located in non-confirmed areas of the city. He said that many such contracts have been sealed by the municipal corporations.

The BJP and Congress had vociferously opposed the policy and complained to the LG as well as central agencies for a probe into it.
