‘Made In India’ COVID-19 Vaccines Better Than Pfizer, Moderna: Adar Poonawalla
Mumbai: Covishield maker Serum Institute of India’s CEO Adar Poonawalla claimed that “Made in India” COVID-19 vaccines have provided better protection than mRNA vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna.
Speaking to ANI, the CEO of SII said, “The vaccines for COVID-19 which are made in India are providing more protection against the disease than mRNA vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna.”
Poonawalla said, ‘It is good that vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna were not introduced in India, because in countries like America people have taken second and third booster dose and still many people are getting infected with corona, but in India, our vaccines have given good protection,” Poonawala stated.
When asked about the export of the Covishield COVID-19 vaccine, the CEO of SII said that India has so far exported it to more than 80 countries.
“We have exported Covishield to more than 80 countries and 100 million doses so far. Now, the demand for COVID vaccine has reduced due to the decreasing number of cases,” he said.
He also added that “In some countries where mRNA vaccine was given, many people were hospitalised and cases were reported in those countries because they were not providing good protection against the viral infection.
