Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Amravati MP Navneet Rana received death threats from an unknown caller following which an FIR was lodged in Delhi, an official said.

She received 11 calls on Tuesday and was threatened with dire consequences if she ever recites Hanuman Chalisa or comes to Maharashtra, Rana’s personal assistant said

“An FIR has been registered at the North Avenue police station under sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district) Amrutha Guguloth said.

Rana’s personal assistant, Vikas Goswami, alleged in the complaint that the MP received 11 calls on Tuesday in which the caller threatened her with dire consequences if she ever recited Hanuman Chalisa or came to Maharashtra.

The complaint, filed in Hindi, said, “The caller spoke to her in a very rude and very inappropriate manner. He abused her, threatened to kill her and said that he would not allow her to enter Maharashtra.”

He further wrote that MP Rana was extremely upset and scared after several threatening calls.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has started an investigation into the matter and the call detail records of the MP are being checked.
