Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann To Be Evicted From MP Flat In Delhi By Lok Sabha Secretariat

Mumbai: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann will be evicted from his MP flat in Delhi, per Lok Sabha Secretariat’s order to the Directorate of Estates.

The Directorate has been directed to initiate eviction proceedings against Mann for “unauthorised” occupation of Central government accommodation.

Mann had resigned from the post of Sangrur MP in March to become the Chief Minister of Punjab.

The Secretariat, in its petition before the Estates Officer, said that Mann, as a member of the 17th Lok Sabha, was allotted Central Government Duplex No. 33, North Avenue, with its units and 153 North Avenue as his regular residence.

“The said allotment in his name has been cancelled with effect from April 14,” it said, adding that Mann failed to vacate the premises.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat said the occupancy of the building after April 13 by the former MP is “unauthorised”.

“It is, therefore, requested that eviction proceedings be initiated against Bhagwant Mann, former MP and all persons and orders for their eviction be passed,” the petition sent to the estate officer said.

There was no immediate response available from the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office. As per official documents, the accommodation has now been issued to the RLP president and a Rajasthan MP Hanuman Beniwal.

Central government employees, MPs, judges and other dignitaries are allotted residential accommodation in the national capital while in service and posted in Delhi.

After their term expires or expires prematurely, they are no longer eligible to occupy housing.

As per the PRS law, to evict a person from residential accommodation, the property officer of the central government first issues a written notice to the person concerned, after which he has to show cause within three working days as to why there is no eviction notice.

Ever since the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government came to power in Delhi, there have been several cases of scuffles between Delhi and the central government over police control, suspension of officers and appointments and transfers of public servants.
