Mumbai Man Promises People High Return On Crypto Investment, Cheats Them Of ₹1.50 Cr

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police arrested a man for allegedly cheating multiple people of ₹1.50 crore by promising them high returns weekly if they invest in cryptocurrency.

According to the complainant, Aatish Patil (24), a gym trainer by profession, was told by Arpita Dey, whom she trained, about accused Jagdish Ladi, who deals in cryptocurrency and bitcoin trading.

Subsequently, in October 2021, Patil met Ladi at his Charkop residence, where he was shown several performances by Ladi and promised a 25% return on his investment within a week.

After Patil was convinced, he introduced his brother Ashish (29) to Laadi, who also showed him the savings of ₹1 crore in his account, and assured him that there was no danger of him being cheated.

After this, the next month both the brothers invested ₹ 6 lakh. Patil said in his statement that when he did not get the promised benefit, he called Ladi but got no response.

After a few days when the Patil brothers went to the girl’s house asking for her money, they found out through one Anita Pardeshi, who had invested ₹10 lakh with Laadi, that she made many others by promising huge returns. was. had cheated. Diya was.

A police officer from Charkop police station said, “Patil then contacted others who were duped by Ladi and approached Charkop police to file a complaint against him.”

Based on the complaint, the police registered an FIR under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code against Laadi for cheating people to the tune of ₹1.5 crores and arrested him.

“We are now finding out how many more people Laadi had cheated and the extent of the fraud,” added the officer.
