Mayawati Promises Brahmins’ Security If Voted To Power In Next UP Polls

Mumbai: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Tuesday promised that her party will ensure the security of the Brahmin community if it comes to power in Uttar Pradesh in next year’s assembly elections.

Mincing no words, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Tuesday said the party needed to bring more and more Brahmins on board if it has to win the 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections.

Mayawati said Brahmins have acknowledged that they were in a better condition under BSP rule than under the BJP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

“Brahmins have agreed that under BSP’s rule, people from the Brahmin community were in a better condition as compared to under BJP’s rule,” Mayawati said.

“I assure the Brahmin community that if we come to power in the next elections, we will ensure their security. We should join more people from the Brahmin community with us for the upcoming elections to form the government with a majority, similar to 2007,” she added.

Mayawati has often accused the Yogi Adityanath government of “harassing and exploiting the community” after winning the 2017 assembly polls with the help of their votes.

Keeping in mind the crucial state elections, the BSP launched a campaign from Ayodhya on 23 July. Mayawati’s Brahmin reach was cited as one of the major factors for her victory in the 2007 state assembly election.

“We should include more people from the Brahmin community for the upcoming elections so that the government can be formed with the same majority as in 2007,” Mayawati said while addressing the ‘Prabuddha Sammelan’ in Lucknow on Tuesday. The program started on 23 July in Ayodhya.
