Meghalaya Becomes First State To Have Water Policy

Mumbai: In a recent development, Meghalaya has become the first state to have a water policy.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “The aim of the policy is to use water resources with sustainable development and community participation. Issues such as water conservation areas and conservation of river pollution have also been highlighted in this regard.”

He said that water policy has been prepared in consultation with experts in conserving water conservation and water bodies. The policy will address issues such as water usage, protection issues and protection of water resources in the state.

Tynsong said that Chief Minister Conrad’s Under the chairmanship of Sangma, the Cabinet discussed the draft policy before the clearance. He said, “All issues related to the use of water and livelihood and conservation of water bodies have been underlined in this policy, which includes community participation in the implementation of this policy by setting up the Water Sanitation Village Council at the village level.”

He said that due to being a hill state in Meghalaya there is much rain, but the same water cannot be retained and all the water reaches Bangladesh in a short time. Other issues discussed on the policy were the need for conservation of water usage and conservation, water bodies and water conservation, water conservation, water conservation and water conservation areas.

Recently, the State Government has started the Jal Shakti Mission to overcome water-related problems.
