Death Of Parrikar’s Legacy: Goa Deputy CM Vijai Sardesai On Induction Of Former Cong MLAs Into BJP

Mumbai: Goa Forward Party (GFP), a coalition partner of the saffron party, has withdrawn its support from the state government, with the addition of 10 BJP MLAs in Goa to BJP and then three of them in the cabinet.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant asked taking the place of Congress legislators recently, including three other including GFP chief and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sardesai.

Announcing the withdrawal of support, Sardesai said that this was the “death of inheritance” of the late Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar – who stalled the alliance in 2017 when BJP fell short of the majority mark.

The Congress, which emerged as the biggest party after the elections, has now been reduced to only five legislators.

Sardesai, declaring his party’s return, said, “Parrikar died on 17 March physically, whereas today it is the death of his political heritage.” He said, “We supported Pramod Sawant government because I had promised to Parrikar that the government will support in any situation. We now feel betrayed and dug by the NDA,” he said.

This week on Wednesday, 10 of the 15 Congress MLAs left the ship to take the number of the ruling party to 27 in the 40-member assembly. After this, CM Sawant asked four ministers to step down – three from GFP and one independent. Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai, Vinod Palliyankar and Jayesh Salgaonkar were ministers, who were asked to go with Rohan Khaitan.
