MNS Muslim Leader Resigns, Accuses Party Of Turning ‘Communal’

Mumbai: A Muslim politician, Majid Shaikh, has tendered his resignation from the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) by accusing it of being “more focused on communalism”.

MNS branch chief Majid Sheikh, in his resignation letter, said: “I am resigning from the post because for the past few days, instead of focusing on issues like development, inflation, women empowerment, unemployment, the party is more focused on the communalism.” Also Read: It’s Not Only For Azaan: K’taka CM On Demand For Loudspeaker Ban In Mosques

Stating that Thackeray’s political stance has shifted from developmental to communal, Shaikh further said, “Raj Sahab was a role model for me as he used to talk about the blueprint of Maharashtra and farmers’ issues and that’s why I am in it. 2009 I joined the party. But now his political stand has changed and the politics of communalism has taken place in the party and hence I have resigned.”

Shaikh has immediately sent his resignation to senior and city unit president Vasant More. He was working as Shaikh President in Pune city for MNS since 2009. The development comes a day after MNS chief Raj Thackeray warned of playing Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers outside mosques if they did not remove the loudspeakers for Azaan.

Raj Thackeray had said, “I am warning now…Remove loudspeakers or else will put loudspeakers in front of the mosque and play Hanuman Chalisa.” Notably, on Sunday morning, MNS played ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ at high decibels from loudspeakers that are installed at its office in Ghatkopar in Mumbai.
