Mumbai: 62-year-Old Man Losses 3.45 Lakh As He Ordered Liquor Online

The elderly man was asked to make payment several times as the fraudsters told him that it failed multiple times

Mumbai: A 62-year-old man in Mumbai became a victim of fraud for ordering liquor online. The man lost Rs 3.45 lakh as he ordered liquor worth Rs 1,220.

The fraud happened when the liquor store staff asked for an advance payment from the man. The victim is a retired man and lives on a pension.

The victim had filed a complaint at Dahisar police station on November 3. In his complaint to police, he said he was searching on Google for shops selling liquor online. The victim said he saw one “living liquids” and called the online store to place the order, according to a report in Indian Express.

The fraudster made the elderly city resident pay a total of Rs 3.45 lakh telling him that his payment had failed multiple times.

The victim was initially asked to make advance payment and later, the fraudster asked him to deposit Rs 49,000 as registration which was refundable. The fraudster again asked the victim to make another payment of Rs 98,000 saying the earlier payment got declined.

The cheat again told the elderly that his payment has failed and the victim was made to pay more. When the man demanded a refund, he was told that the money would be returned in the next 24 hours.

The man finally realised that he was cheated by the accused after the money was not refunded.
