Mumbai Citizens Needn’t Visit Police Station For Passport Verification

Mumbai: Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey tweeted on Saturday that citizens won’t be required to visit police stations for passport verification.

They will be called only in exceptional cases when the documents are incomplete, he said, adding that they must report if this norm isn’t being followed.

“Constable who comes to your house does all the work. He is competent. You may get called in only if there is a discrepancy but not as a norm,” he said on Twitter.

The passport verification process has been a pain for citizens and often involves corruption. Thus the move is aimed at facilitating the process in the interest of citizens.

After taking over as the new Police Commissioner, Pandey used social media to interact with the citizens of Mumbai and launched several initiatives based on a large number of suggestions from citizens.

The IPS officer has taken action on many complaints like curbing noise pollution due to construction activities at night, driving in the wrong direction, dumping old vehicles.
