No Relief For Delhi, As Air Quality Remains In ‘Severe’ Category

Mumbai: The overall Delhi AQI is at the higher end of the ‘Severe’ category. The Supreme Court-mandated anti-pollution authority EPCA on Wednesday ordered the closure of schools in Delhi-NCR for the next two days as pollution in the region hovered close to emergency levels.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) also advised people to avoid outdoor exposure and work from home.

At the higher end of pollution level seeking air quality at 472 at 7:00 am at Wednesday System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) said. “The effective stubble fire counts estimated by Safar-integrated multi-satellite methodology has shown decreasing trend (480 counts on November 12) Hence, a decline in biomass share in Delhi’s air quality is estimated as 13 percent for November 14 in spite of favorable transport-level wind trajectory,” SAFAR stated.

The slight improvement is expected in the day time but it gradually falls after sunset PM 2.5 levels will start to increase immediately.

It was shared that the air quality deteriorates at stable nights and tomorrow and stay in the severe category. The air quality will improve by tomorrow but, the category of severe to very poor will be after 16 Nov. The Supreme Court had on Wednesday asked the central government to explore Hydrogen based fuel technology to find solutions to combat air pollution in Northern India including Delhi-NCR.

Strong winds are expected from November 15, which will bring down the air pollution levels to the very poor category. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in view of the situation, the odd-even road rationing scheme could be extended beyond November 15.
